OUR JOURNEY

South Florida Vintage Warbirds Preservation Society, SFVWPS, is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that was founded in 2020 for the purpose of acquiring, restoring if necessary, and preserving iconic military aircraft of the decades of the 1950’s and 1960’s, that served in both the United States and foreign military services.

The founding members of SFVWPS either served in the US military or are proud descendants of those who did.

These decades

Some may ask why we have chosen these particular decades and on aircraft developed for the military. These decades saw the most rapid technological advancements in both jet engine and jet aircraft design, mostly, if not 100%, driven by the needs of the military of individual nations.

As a case in point, Boeing’s first commercial jet liner, the 707, was completely based on Boeing’s design for an air to air refueling aircraft which eventually came to be known as the KC-135 Stratotanker.

Another “milestone” aircraft from these two decades is an aircraft that still, today, is the world's fastest ever, piloted, aircraft, the Lockheed SR-71Blackbird. Jet engine technology went from centrifugal flow turbojet engines to axial flow turbojet engines, to low bypass turbofan engines and finally to high bypass turbofan engines, in this span.

"It is our intent to have all the aircraft in our collection be, whenever possible, in an airworthy condition, so that past, current, and future generations can physically see, touch, and watch these historic aircraft perform as they did in their prime."

When possible, we will acquire aircraft that's already airworthy, but those that are not will have to be restored to airworthy condition.

To accomplish our goals, we will be depending on both private and public donations.
